Crystal Palace are reportedly considering a bid for Antoine Semenyo this month and the Ghana international could be the man to replace Wilfried Zaha in Patrick Vieira's side.

According to John Percy of the Telegraph, the Eagles are considering a move for the Bristol City striker before the transfer deadline next week but could face competition from Bournemouth, who saw offers of £8m and £10m rejected last week.

Vieira looks to be in desperate need of attacking additions at Selhurst Park this month, as his side have managed just four goals in their last seven games, with the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze failing to fire.

Things only look set to get worse for the Eagles without January signings, as Zaha could be set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury in last weekend's stalemate with Newcastle United.

The former Manchester United man is the top scorer at Selhurst Park with six goals this season, which makes up 35% of Palace's total goals in the top flight, which emphasises how big a loss he will be.

Unless new signings are brought in, Vieira's side could soon find themselves in a relegation battle, so it is no surprise that they are targeting Semenyo, given his impressive displays in the Championship across the past two campaigns.

Last season saw the 23-year-old contribute eight goals and 12 assists in just 31 appearances, averaging a superb 6.97 rating from WhoScored for his performances, which is better than any player in Vieira's squad has managed so far this term.

Although he struggled with injury issues at the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign, the former Sunderland loanee now has six goals and three assists in just Nigel Pearson's side and he could prove a big hit at Selhurst Park if he can continue that form in the Premier League.

Pearson was full of praise for the young attacker last year, saying:

“He is a real threat with his power and pace – he must be a nightmare to play against! His challenge now is to keep developing and adding elements to his game to make him even more effective.”

Although he is predominantly a striker, Semenyo also has experience playing on the left wing, which suggests that he could be a good man to replace Zaha in Vieira's side, both while he is out injured and when he completes a likely move away from Selhurst Park when his contract expires in the summer.

It's clear that Vieira needs more attacking options in his side and if Semenyo can adapt quickly to the Premier League, then he could prove to be a very shrewd acquisition this month.
