Crystal Palace: Journo reveals blow to Palace transfer target

Crystal Palace have been linked with a few players already for the January transfer window, with Patrick Vieira hoping to continue his good start to this season that has put the side just outside of the top half of the table.

The French manager brought in a number of new players in the summer transfer window last year, but he may not be able to secure a rumoured target.

What’s the word?

Journalist, Tom Barclay, has given GIVEMESPORT an insight into his perspective on the chances of Crystal Palace signing AS Roma striker, Borja Mayoral and it doesn’t look good;

“He’s not getting the game time he wants at Roma, so maybe they’re looking for a move ideally to the Premier League. So that’s why it [the links] keeps happening, I don’t know. But I don’t think that’s going to happen from a Palace point of view.”

Can you guess which Palace player scored the most goals in all competitions during the season in question? Let's start with 2009/10...

Last month, Italian newspaper La Nazione reported (via Sports Witness) that Real Madrid had held talks with Crystal Palace about the potential of selling the 24-year-old to the club, but nothing has since materialised.

Fans will be gutted

Crystal Palace have settled for eight draws, becoming their most popular results this season in the Premier League, which suggests that they need that extra push to kill games, so fans will be gutted that the potential signing of Mayoral might not happen.

Indeed, the Spanish striker fits the bill in Vieira’s plan to build a Palace team for the future, as he is only 24, with plenty of time to grow into his position and progress with the right guidance and club.

Meanwhile, Mayoral has no trouble finding the back of the net with 73 goals and 22 assists in his career so far. He put in an impressive run last season with Italian side, Roma, with 17 goals and six assists across the Serie A and Europa League, with seven of those scored in just 13 appearances in Europe.

Should Vieira sign Mayoral?

Vieira will be keen for his side to make an impact in their FA Cup game against Milwall at the weekend, as he continues to thrive in his first season as manager at Selhurst Park, and a good cup run for the Eagles would be a great addition to the Frenchman’s Crystal Palace CV so far.

For now, however, he and the supporters will have to deal with this blow on one of their most attractive January targets.
