Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres recently and the Sweden international could be the man to end a six-year barren spell at Selhurst Park.

According to Football League World, Palace, West Ham, Everton and Southampton are all keen on the 24-year-old, who currently sits joint-top of the goalscoring charts on nine in the Championship after an excellent start to the season.

The former Brighton man has looked extremely threatening for the Sky Blues in recent campaigns and always looks likely to get on the scoresheet, as is evidenced by his FBRef scouting report.

The statistics suggest that the 24-year-old scores in the top percentile for progressive passes received when compared to other forwards, while he also scores in the top tenth percentile for shot-creating actions, dribbles completed and touches in the attacking area, which emphasises just how dangerous he can be.

By comparison, Palace's current main striker options Jean-Philippe Mateta and Odsonne Edouard score in the eighth and 20th percentile respectively for progressive passes received, which suggests that neither are getting themselves in good positions to score on a regular basis.

Palace's top scorers in each of the last seasons have not been out-and-out strikers, with Wilfried Zaha leading the way in the last three campaigns - including the current one - while Luka Milivojevic took the plaudits in 2017/18 and 2018/19.

While Jordan Ayew finished as the Eagles' top scorer in 2019/20 with just nine goals, he spent much of that season playing on the wing, which suggests that the last natural striker to lead the charts at Selhurst Park was Christian Benteke in 2016/17.

With Zaha seemingly set to depart Selhurst Park in the summer, Vieira will need a new goalscorer in his side, and Gyokeres' form for Coventry suggests that he could be a big hit at Palace and could be the man to finally end the Eagles' poor run of striker form.

Indeed, words from Coventry boss Mark Robins suggest he could be the solution. He once said:

"He’s not the finished article by any stretch of the imagination but he has some unbelievable ability - power, technique. He has got everything in his locker and that desire and hunger to score goals."

It's now over to Vieira and Steve Parish to get a deal over the line.
