Crystal Palace may have been handed a boost in their efforts to keep their star man at the club…

What’s the word?

According to Ryan Taylor, Wilfried Zaha could be sticking around at Selhurst Park for the foreseeable future despite interest from European clubs.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “It’s a bit of a weird one now with Zaha because he’s starting to get on, you look at his age, he’s late 20s, which seems crazy to think.

“He would be happy to stay at Palace, but if an offer arrives, I’m sure it would be considered.”

Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma had been noted as the most interested party, so if a tempting offer was to come, it would likely be from them.

A boost for Vieira

Patrick Vieira will be delighted to hear that his talisman would be happy to stick around at the club, especially considering all the exciting young talent he has surrounded him with.

If there was any winger in the league you would want your youth to learn from, especially the youth of Palace, it is Zaha.

He has been at the club since he was a child, joining the youth academy in 2004. Despite a small stint away at Manchester United, he has amassed an astounding 430 appearances for his boyhood club.

Across this period, his 83 goals have him tied second and just 21 goals away from Clinton Morrison’s record as the club’s top goal scorer.

He has been instrumental in the club’s continued presence in the Premier League, and his 14 league strikes last campaign were integral in Palace’s surprise mid-table finish, despite many touting their relegation.

In fact, he also scored double figures in the 2020/21 season, suggesting he truly is coming into his prime now.

When people have doubted him, he has proven them wrong, and to stay at Selhurst Park is a glowing endorsement of what Vieira is creating at the club.

The “spectacular” - in the words of Frank de Boer - forward's decision to stay also will be important in attracting future talents, as to keep moving forward as a club key assets must be retained.

He is at the forefront of this Eagles revolution, and this club legend sticking around is probably the most important boost for them all summer.

Perhaps with the new additions, and another personal season like the last, he can help push his side to new heights in the league table, progressing the club as a whole in the process.
