Aston Villa have had a disappointing season in the Championship, but with Steve Bruce close to ensuring his side’s survival in the second-tier of English football, thoughts will soon turn towards next season.
More specifically, Bruce will soon start thinking about his goals and aspirations ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, and given the historic nature of Aston Villa Football Club, promotion back to the Premier League must be his ultimate aim.
However, to achieve that, it is clear that he needs a few new signings – and given how many top players the Villans have had over the years, it might make sense for Bruce to bring in a few members of the old guard.
We questioned the Aston Villa fans on this very topic by asking them which former stars they would like to see return, and the results were very interesting.
Topping the list was, unsurprisingly, Gareth Barry – with the now-Everton midfielder able to offer a real dose of experience to the heart of the Villa midfield.
Elsewhere, the trophy-laden duo of Ashley Young and Marc Albrighton, the latter of which won the Premier League last season, were popular suggestions – with both able to offer a significant offensive threat to an otherwise disappointing attacking line.
Former stars Curtis Davis and Andreas Weimann were markedly less popular, though, so Steve Bruce might want to avoid them.
