Diego Costa’s future at Chelsea, despite being on course to fire them to this season’s Premier League title, seems far from certain at the moment.
Just a matter of days ago, The Sun claimed the Spaniard was set to receive a five-year contract worth a potential £65million.
But Sky Sports quickly challenged that rumour by claiming Costa is yet to agree terms and his January bust-up with Antonio Conte, on the backdrop of reported interest from the Chinese Super League, continues to linger in the memory.
FootballFanCast have already shared our thoughts on why it might make more sense for Chelsea to cash-in on Costa this summer, rather than tying him down in west London for another five years.
And it appears a significant chunk of Chelsea fans would agree with us. Earlier this week, we asked supporters to vote for the Blues’ most important player under Antonio Conte and to our surprise, Costa ranked a lowly tenth out of a possible 13.
That suggests, at a bare minimum, that Chelsea supporters wouldn’t be too disappointed to see the 28-year-old leave at the end of the campaign.
