The right wing-back position should perhaps be Chelsea’s biggest concern ahead of a season in which they’ll return to the Champions League whilst simultaneously trying to defend the Premier League title.
No doubt, Victor Moses more than held his own last season, but he’s not a wing-back by nature and that really showed in the FA Cup final, where two naive decisions saw him sent for an early shower.
Unfortunately, however, Europe isn’t exactly overflowing with right wing-backs at the minute. No doubt, certain names come to mind such as Tottenham’s Kyle Walker and Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe, but overall, options are little thin on the ground.
One unorthodox solution, however, comes in the form of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who impressed at right wing-back after Arsenal’s switch to 3-4-3 towards the tail-end of last season.
Chelsea have already been linked with the England international so we asked Blues supporters last week whether the club should look to poach him from their London rivals.
And although our poll was by no means conclusive, it appears the majority of Chelsea fans – 62% – would welcome the 23-year-old to Stamford Bridge in time for next season.
