The race to sign Southampton star Virgil van Dijk is seriously hotting up – and rightly so.
The Dutch international was phenomenal during the first half of the season, before having his campaign ended in January by a horrendous Jamie Vardy tackle, producing a level of form both without and with the ball that lead many to herald him a future member of Barcelona’s ball-playing backline.
A switch to the Nou Camp now seems a little hyperbolic, but there is certainly interest in the 12-cap Netherlands international ahead of the summer transfer window, with The Liverpool Echo mooting Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City as potential suitors.
But the regional newspaper’s most noteworthy claim is that Liverpool are prepared to table a club-record bid for the £50million-rated centre-half, with Jurgen Klopp keen to improve a defence that has conceded the most goals of any side in the Premier League’s top seven this term.
Consequentially, we asked Reds fans earlier this week whether they’d back a £50million swoop for the Saints ace and according to the results of our exclusive poll, a significant 71% would. Are you in the majority, or would you rather Klopp spent his money elsewhere? Let us know by commenting below…
