Revealed: Majority of Newcastle fans would back summer swoop for Delph

Newcastle United are back in the top flight, but their fans and their manager will want more than simply survival next season.

After all, we’re talking about one of the biggest clubs in England and a former Champions League winning manager; narrowly avoiding the drop won’t be enough for those who’ve grown tired with the Magpies’ stagnation under Mike Ashley.

Ambitious signings are expected this summer but with that in mind, reports linking the Tynesiders with Manchester City’s 5 foot 9 midfielder Fabian Delph – courtesy of The Daily Star – may well divide opinion.

On the one hand, the 27-year-old is an England international and was once the difference between survival and relegation for Aston Villa. On the other, he’s barely kicked a ball since making the controversial move to Manchester City two summers ago.

With that in mind, we asked Magpies fans earlier this week whether they’d back a summer swoop for the nine-cap enforcer and according to our poll, the vast majority – a whopping 71% – would. Time for Rafa to get his cheque book out.
