Manchester United kicked off their season with an incredibly convincing 4-0 victory over West Ham at Old Trafford.
The performance and the result provided a much-welcomed variation to last season, when the Red Devils’ inability to find the net cost them dearly – scoring the least goals of any side in the Premier League’s top seven.
That was partly due to the imperious form of Romelu Lukaku at the tip of attack, netting the opening two goals and providing physical menace all afternoon.
But fellow summer signing Nemanja Matic proved equally integral, injecting defensive awareness in United’s engine room to provide a platform for the creative talents around him.
Accordingly, we asked United fans to vote for their man of the match earlier this week and despite Lukaku’s £75million price-tag, it was the Serbian international who ran away with our poll, claiming a whopping 54% of the vote.
