Tottenham Hotspur have continually gravitated towards the centre of transfer discussions in recent weeks, with the newspapers seemingly doubting whether the club can keep their exciting cohort of young England internationals together despite finishing second in the Premier League this season.

Indeed, copious Lilywhites stars have been linked away, not least including versatile defender-come-midfielder Eric Dier, who is reportedly a £40million transfer target for Manchester United.

However, Manchester Evening News believe the Red Devils have switched their focus from the Three Lions ace to Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, believing the double-title winner is a more attainable target due to Daniel Levy's infamous reluctance to negotiate with other Premier League clubs.

The Serbian powerhouse has worked under Jose Mourinho before and is unquestionably one of the best holding midfielders in the top flight, but due to turn 29 in August, he doesn't offer United much in the way of longevity.

With that in mind, we asked United fans last week who they'd rather sign and our poll revealed that a slim majority, 54%, of Red Devils supporters would prefer a summer transfer swoop for the Tottenham ace.
