Chelsea have stepped up their attempts to sign Romelu Lukaku as the Belgian striker has become Antonio Conte’s number one target for the summer, according to reports from the Evening Standard.
Lukaku finished as the second top-scorer in the Premier League this season with 25 goals, but has been heavily linked back with a move to his former club over the past few months.
The 24-year-old forward is likely to command a hefty fee for his services with figures as high as £100million being mooted, meaning the Toffees will certainly have money to spend on his replacement.
Attracting a striker of similar value may prove a task too big for a club with only Europa League football to offer however, and hence Ronald Koeman could be forced to go for a more modest option such as Kelechi Iheanacho or Andre Gray – recently linked by ESPN and The Telegraph respectively.
Iheanacho, who Manchester City reportedly value at in excess of £20million, has struggled for playing time under Pep Guardiola this season, especially since the arrival of Gabriel Jesus in January, but his quality remains undoubted having still managed to find the net seven times.
Gray, on the other hand, has not had such struggles, being a regular in Burnley’s starting line-up and enjoying a good first season in the top flight. The former Luton Town man has scored ten goals and bagged three assists for Sean Dyche’s side this year.
