Had it not been for a January hissy-fit amid rumours about his future, 2016/17 would be classified as a roaring success for Diego Costa at Chelsea so far.

The Spaniard has been simply excellent after a difficult campaign last time out, with his 16 goals putting him firmly in the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot award come the end of the season – even if Harry Kane has hit a purple patch of form to move to 19 on the weekend.

This evening Costa’s Chelsea meet West Ham in a game they need to win to ensure the ten-point advantage they had going into gameweek 27 remains intact, and an Irons defence that’s shipped 44 goals in 26 outings offers much encouragement for him.
