HYS: Is Chelsea-Atletico now a rivalry?

Once this season’s Champions League group stages are over, Chelsea will have faced Atletico Madrid five times since 2012 and four times since 2014 – making it a surprisingly regular fixture considering the clubs are from different countries and haven’t always qualified for Europe’s top competition during that period.

Meanwhile, there’s been plenty of interaction between the two teams in the transfer market; Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis, Radamel Falcao and most recently Diego Costa – who officially re-joined the Mattress Makers last week – have plied their trade with both teams since meeting in the 2012 European Super Cup.

There’s also a curious overlap in philosophies. Chelsea aren’t quite as defensive as Atletico, but most of their success has been achieved with a similar mantra of incredible organisation at the back.

So Chelsea fans, we’re curious to know how Blues supporters view Atletico these days. Do you have a strange affinity with Diego Simeone’s side, do you have no feelings whatsoever, or are they your overseas rivals? Let us know by voting below…
