Saturday must have felt like Groundhog Day for Arsenal fans, watching another title bid evaporate just as the stakes started to get high in the Premier League.
In numerical terms, Arsenal are now twelve points behind the Premier League pace setters, but it was the manner in which they were out-classed and out-fought by Chelsea that showed the difference between this season’s likely champions and a side who’ll be remembered as also-rans once again.
As is the case around this time pretty much every season, Arsene Wenger’s future at the club has come under question, with Arsenal’s campaign petering out in typical Arsenal style.
But this time, it feels as if the voices of discontent have a little more meaning; Wenger’s contract expires at the end of the season and following widespread managerial changes throughout the rest of the Premier League’s top six in recent years, it feels as if the English top flight has entered a new era – leaving Le Prof behind.
However, much will depend on Arsenal’s results between now and then, and whether the fans still have faith in their long-serving manager. With that in mind, we’re keen to hear the opinions of our Gunners readers following that Chelsea defeat – do you think it’s time for Wenger to leave? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
