The current international break gives fans a chance to forget about domestic football for the next fortnight and ponder England’s chances at the World Cup in Russia next summer – with the Three Lions’ place at the tournament almost certain to be secured this week.
England have fared infamously poorly at international tournaments in recent years – in fact, practically ever since their only major honour back in 1966 – but there is some optimism surrounding Gareth Southgate’s side that contains young and exciting attacking talents like Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.
For England to have any hope of upsetting the odds in Russia, however, England will need superlative form from their man between the sticks. And although Joe Hart remains the Three Lions’ first choice, with 73 caps under his belt already, there is room for debate over whether he should continue in that berth next summer.
With Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland, Fraser Forster and Tom Heaton, who Transfermarkt value at £3.6million, all enjoying good form over the last few seasons, there are certainly some viable alternatives to choose from.
So, Newcastle fans, who do you think should be England’s No.1 at the World Cup next summer?
