Since joining Arsenal in 1996, Arsene Wenger has become nothing short of a legend.
To say that the Frenchman has been a long-serving leader of the Gunners would be an understatement, and he has preside over arguably the most successful period in the club’s history – but it would seem as though his tenure at the top is coming to an end.
Wenger’s contract expires at the end of the season, and given that Arsenal are struggling somewhat this year, his future is firmly up in the air. Barring a miracle, the Gunners are out of the race for the Champions League and Premier League, and a solitary FA Cup win might not be enough to warrant a contract renewal.
Interestingly, speculation on his future comes alongside confirmation from Barcelona manager Luis Enrique that he is to step down at the end of the season. Wenger has since stated that he isn’t interested in the post, but if he isn’t offered a new deal, a Barcelona switch actually does make a lot of sense.
It would certainly offer an interesting proposition for Wenger, and one that he certainly must consider if he is approached about the role.
