The immediate future of Virgil van Dijk has been a recurring subject of discussion throughout the summer transfer window.

Liverpool were almost burned for their pursuit of the 12-cap Netherlands international earlier in the summer but still appear to be amongst the pack interested in his services, provided Southampton eventually decide to sell.

However, reports from Yahoo have provided a twist in this ongoing transfer saga. They claim Southampton are refusing to be bullied into a deal with the Reds and are now more likely to sell the ball-playing centre-back to Chelsea or Manchester City.

That, however, will require an offer in excess of £70million, which would constitute a new record transfer fee for the Blues - and the Citizens, for that matter.

After parting with John Terry at the end of last season, Chelsea arguably still need that authoritative figure at the back and the Dutchman's ability on the ball makes him a good fit for Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 setup.

But is the Saints star, valued at £27million by Transfermarkt, really worth a club-record £70million? Let us know by voting below...
