With just a handful of games of the 2o16/17 Premier League campaign remaining, the rumour mill is seriously starting to hot up ahead of the summer transfer window, and there are copious signs pointing to Liverpool acquiring a commanding centre-back.

The Reds have the worst defensive record in the top seven and the heart of their defence is particularly underwhelming. Although Joel Matip has impressed since arriving last summer, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan leave much to be desired - whilst Liverpool's most used backup option after that is midfielder Lucas Leiva.

Mirror Football and The Daily Star both claim Jurgen Klopp is on the case, but the sources cite rather different targets; Burnley's old-school centre-half Michael Keane and Southampton's playmaking centre-back Virgil van Dijk respectively.

Both have enjoyed very strong seasons, the England international keeping Burnley in the top flight and his 6 foot 4 Dutch counterpart producing arguably the best form of any defender in the league before a campaign-ending injury in January.

Signing both this summer seems unlikely. So, Liverpool fans, which would you prefer to see turn up at Anfield ahead of the 2017/18 season? Let us know by voting below...
