According to reports from The Daily Star, Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The Spain international's talent and pedigree remains undeniable and even amid a campaign that has seen him make more substitute appearances than starts in the Premier League, he's still contributed an impressive four goals and nine assists to Chelsea's all-but mathematically wrapped-up title bid.

But the 29-year-old is by no means a guaranteed starter at Stamford Bridge with Nemanja Matic and N'Golo Kante preferred for the majority of the campaign. Monaco's in-demand midfielder Tiemou Bakayoko's potential arrival during the summer could push him further down the pecking order.

Jose Mourinho and Fabregas didn't appear to be on the best of terms during the United gaffer's ill-fated final few months at Chelsea. But the Red Devils will struggle to find a midfielder with such a proven track record in the Premier League this summer and he'd certainly add real quality to their engine room - whilst allowing him to join Liverpool instead could be what transforms Jurgen Klopp's side into genuine title candidates.

So United fans, should Mourinho swoop for his former charger this summer? Let us know by voting below...
