HYS: Should West Ham launch surprise Szczesny bid?

According to reports from London Evening Standard, Inter Milan could be about to join the race to sign Arsenal’s forgotten goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The Poland international was the No.1 for three straight seasons at the Emirates Stadium but after losing his place to David Ospina and subsequently Petr Cech, he’s spent the last two years out on loan at Roma.

Juventus are now eyeing him as the long-term successor to Gigi Buffon, who is due to retire after the 2018 World Cup, but Inter Milan are seemingly considering a swoop as well.

Looking a little closer to home, however, should West Ham be considering a swoop for the 27-year-old too? After all, the Irons appear to be in the market for a goalkeeper following poor campaigns from Adrian and Darren Randolph, with Joe Hart reportedly being eyed for a loan deal.

West Ham may struggle to match the bumper salaries and high potential for regular European football at Juventus or Inter, but the club are ambitiously looking forward after moving to their new stadium and they would give Szczesny the chance to live in London once again – something that appears to be an increasingly important pull factor in the modern transfer market.

Although he became a little error-prone during his final few seasons in the Arsenal first team, Szczesny ticks all the boxes for West Ham in terms of quality and experience and LES believe he could be available for around £15million – a fee well within the east London outfit’s reach.
