Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland will certainly fancy his chances of usurping Joe Hart from England’s No.1 berth in time for the World Cup in Russia next summer.
The 6 foot 5 shot-stopper has been billed as a future Three Lions starter ever since first emerging as a teenage prospect at Birmingham City and with Hart’s career seemingly on the wane after being exiled from Manchester City by Pep Guardiola, the timing is right for Butland to leapfrog the West Ham loanee in Gareth Southgate’s plans.
But Butland, who has picked up five England caps to date, isn’t the only competitor for Hart’s starting berth, should Southgate elect to vacate it. Tom Heaton, Jordan Pickford and Fraser Forster, who Transfermarkt value at £13.5million, will all feel they’ve staked a viable claim for the No.1 jersey as well.
So, Stoke fans, do you think Butland should be England’s first-choice goalkeeper next summer, or is one of Southgate’s alternative options more deserving?
