Last week, 14 Premier League clubs voted to end the next summer transfer window early – specifically, on the Thursday before the first game of the 2018/19 campaign.
The decision has been made with the view to decimating the uncertainty managers have to contend with during the first few weeks of the season, when they’re still working with players who may not be at the club by the end of the month.
During the summer, that saw a number of players – Alexis Sanchez, Virgil van Dijk and Philippe Coutinho particularly – rule themselves out as injured in the hope of sealing late moves elsewhere.
However, there is a potential downside to the new rule; namely, that foreign top flights will still be able to sign players from the Premier League and do business with each other once the English window has closed.
In a World Cup year, that could prove to be a massive disadvantage for the Premier League. So, Everton fans, when do you think the transfer window should close? Let us know by voting below…
