West Ham were one of the clubs who endured a difficult deadline day as they failed to seal a deal for Sporting Lisbon defender William Carvalho, something that has seemingly created divisions not only between the two clubs but also the board and manager Slaven Bilic.
However, those kinds of problems will be done and dusted much earlier next summer following the Premier League’s vote to close the transfer window before the first game of 2018/19.
It’s largely been seen as a positive move, reducing the uncertainty managers and players face during the early weeks of the season, but it could leave the Premier League at a massive disadvantage during a World Cup year because foreign top flights will still be able to sign players – even from England – until the end of August.
