Celtic's bid to qualify for the Champions League proper took a gigantic step in the right direction last night as Brendan Rodgers' boys secured a dominant 5-0 win over Astana at Celtic Park.

That's not only given the Bhoys a huge lead to take into the second leg but also ruled out the possibility of being undone by away goals - the Kazakhstan outfit will now have to score six times without conceding on their own patch to progress to the next round.

The match was book-ended by two own goals in the 32nd minute and the 88th, although the first was an almost inevitable consequence of Tom Rogic's fleet-footed brilliance and the second was a wicked deflection from a Leigh Griffiths shot.

The conclusive goals in between were provided by brace-bagging winger-forward Scott Sinclair and Scotland international James Forrest. Nir Bitton, meanwhile, was imperious at centre-back, stifling breaks whilst building play from deep, and Oliver Ntcham was crucial in maintaining control over the engine room.
