HYS: Who was Liverpool’s Man of the Match vs Spartak Moscow?

Liverpool’s performance and result against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League last night can be summarised in one word – frustrating.

The Reds produced four times more efforts at goal than the Russian outfit, tested the goalkeepers on four more occasions and hit the woodwork late on through substitute Daniel Sturridge, but were eventually held to a draw by a Fernando free kick that probably should have been saved by Loris Karius.

Although Liverpool responded via Philippe Coutinho shortly after the 23rd-minute strike, wasteful finishing cost them dearly and Jurgen Klopp’s side now return to Merseyside with just a point, marking a difficult start to their Champions League campaign.

Nonetheless, there were some impressive individual performances. Alongside Coutinho, Sadio Mane continually caused problems for Spartak’s defence, while both full-backs bombed forward and had a significant impact on the match.
