Central midfield is perhaps the most important department in the 3-4-3 formation that has taken the Premier League by storm since Antonio Conte introduced it last season.
While the engine room is backed by the physicality of the three central defenders behind them, it still requires fantastic stamina, power and quality to be successful upon facing the many three-man midfields in the English top flight.
Thus, and especially following the summer departure of Nemanja Matic, the position alongside N’Golo Kante in Chelsea’s midfield is a crucial one – and one that appears to still be open at Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, despite Tiemoue Bakayoko’s arrival during the summer, Cesc Fabregas has made more Premier League starts there this season while England international Danny Drinkwater moved to west London on Deadline Day – highlighting how keen Conte was for more competition in midfield.
So following a scoreless draw with Arsenal that saw Fabregas start alongside Kante but move further forward in the second half after Bakayoko’s introduction from the bench, we asked Chelsea fans who should be the Frenchman’s regular partner in central midfield.
And according to our poll, a whopping 73% of Chelsea fans think it should be Kante’s one-cap compatriot Bakayoko, who admittedly impressed in the second 45 minutes against the Gunners. But do you agree with the majority, Blues supporters? Let us know by commenting below…
