While Jose Mourinho will be pleased with the fact he brought home the League Cup to Old Trafford this season, and potentially the Europa League on Wednesday night, it has been another disappointing league campaign for Manchester United.

Last season, United finished 5th in the league and waved good riddance to Louis van Gaal - a man both the board and indeed the fans felt wasn't fit to take club back to the top of the Premier League.

Last summer brought an array of changes at Old Trafford, with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahmivoc, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly joining Jose Mourinho in the red half of Manchester.

Twelve months down the line and United - with all their big spending - finished sixth. The answer? Spend, spend and spend a little more. Or at least that is how it is looking, with United linked with a long list of world class superstars, according to transfermarkt.com.

With all that attacking talent potential arriving last year, the Mourinho will have to switch his focus to improving his defence ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Bailly has been an omnipresent figure in United's defence this season yet has failed to find himself a suitable partner in crime, with Chris Smalling flattering to deceive and Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo - while having a decent spell in the middle of the year - unfortunately not having the credentials to make up a title challenging back four.

Two defenders seemingly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, according to transfermarkt.com's list of potential incomings, are Burnley's Michael Keane and Paris Saint-Germain's Brazil international Marquinhos.

But who would Man United fans prefer to see line up alongside Bailly next season? Have your say in the poll below...
