It seems Arsenal’s annual collapse came even earlier in the Premier League calendar this year and, worryingly, it could have worse effects than missing out on only the top prize in domestic football, a trophy they were never truly expected to win at the start of the campaign.
With the upper echelons of the English elite improving immeasurably over the course of the summer, the Gunners now find themselves outside of the famed top four and, having been knocked out of the Champions League with relatively ease, it could be a while before they return.
So, who actually improved Arsene Wenger’s squad over the course of the summer? Shkodran Mustafi would be the obvious choice, having replaced countryman Per Mertesacker in the heart of central defence, so we’re going to take him as read when posing that very question to Arsenal fans.
Outside of Mustafi, who has been Arsenal’s signing of the season? Granit Xhaka, Lucas Perez and Rob Holding may not strike fans as the most inspiring bunch, though which of the three deserves that crown?
