EURO 2016: Five Italy stars to watch

Antonio Conte will manage an Italy squad that boasts a strong defence with a legendary goalkeeper. It’s hard to remember the last time Gianluigi Buffon wasn’t occupying the net for the Italian side, and his form hasn’t slowed much.

Leonardo Bonucci will anchor the defence, while Lorenzo Insigne and Stephan El Shaaraway patrol the midfield. Where the Italians may struggle, however, is in the attacking third – scoring has been the Azzurri’s most glaring issue for the past several years.

Italy went goalless in two of their three games in the 2014 World Cup with essentially the same core of players. Consequently, the squad failed to advance from the group stage.

Italy enter the EUROs with an excellent chance to advance, however. Aside from top-ranked Belgium, the two other sides in Group E are the Republic of Ireland and Sweden, who both teams that Italy should beat.
