EURO 2016: Five things you really should know about Portugal

It seems like now or never for Portugal in terms of winning a major tournament.

Although the Iberian side have a host of good young players breaking through, with Cristiano Ronaldo now 31, the clock is ticking on his career at the very highest level, while defensive stalwart, Pepe, isn’t getting any younger, too.

A flat friendly beating at the hands of England has seen some question Portugal’s credentials heading into EURO 2016, but having qualified with relative ease and been drawn in Group F alongside Austria, Iceland and Hungary, a spot in the knockouts appears a virtual guarantee.

As mentioned before, Ronaldo is very much their key man, while former Manchester United star Luis Nani is also relied upon heavily for inspiration in an otherwise functional XI that includes the likes of Joao Moutinho and William Carvalho. Bafflingly, Ricardo Quaresma remains in the squad.
