Mark Hughes: No change on Lescott

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes claims he is still interested in Joleon Lescott but has revealed there have been no developments in his pursuit of the Everton defender.

Hughes has seen two big-money bids rejected for the England international by a club which is determined to hold on to one of its better players.

Lescott too has had his formal transfer request turned down by Toffees boss David Moyes.

The 27-year-old defender appeared to edge closer to the exit door at Goodison Park after being dropped from the side which overcame Sigma Olomouc 4-0 in the Europa League on Thursday.

Lescott watched the European tie from the stands which increased the speculation surrounding his future.

But with Hughes and the Eastlands club away themselves in midweek taking part in an exhibition game against Barcelona, the City chief has revealed that there have been no fresh developments.

"I think we have discussed this at length for probably the past three weeks and it's just going over old ground," said Hughes when asked for an update.

"I've said time and time again that we've made bids for Joleon Lescott and they've been rejected by Everton, who are very much within their rights to do that.

"I respect that decision, that's the top and bottom of that.

"There hasn't been any update since we came back from Barcelona, so that's where we are.

"There hasn't been any opportunity to progress it because people have been busy."
