Everton could have landed Denzel Dumfries

Everton are currently having to rely on Seamus Coleman at right-back for the next four to five weeks after Simon Phillips offered an injury update via GIVEMESPORT on Nathan Patterson.

However, before the arrival of the young Scotsman, who has had a torrid time with injuries, the 33-year-old had arguably been around the first team way longer than he should have been.

There was reported interest in Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries, however, after his excellent Euro 2020 campaign the Toffees never stood a chance.

The 26-year-old actually came out after his move to Inter Milan to claim: “I was talking to Raiola every day, I strongly wanted to join Inter. I had an offer from Everton, but I didn’t think twice about coming here.”

Had they managed to swoop in and capture the £43.5m-rated full-back instead of the Italian giants, who were suffering from financial troubles that summer, they could have had a readymade replacement for Coleman who adds power and pace to any side he graces.

Two goals and an assist in just four matches at the Euros drew interest from all of Europe, however, he has gone on to translate this into league football too for his new club.

Just last season he scored five and assisted another handful in the league, as he went on to feature 45 times across all competitions.

His reliability would be paramount for an Everton side often inundated with injuries, and with Patterson having now suffered two particularly nasty ones, he seems to be all out of luck.

His domineering performances down the right flank have actually drawn comparisons to the great Maicon from the Italian media.

Firstly, where did Everton finish in the Premier League?

With his physique, however, this is no surprise. As former Everton defender Johnny Heitinga noted on Dumfries, “he’s got the strength, he’s got the power.”

Coleman only managed one goal and one assist last season, whilst Patterson is yet to contribute offensively at all for the Blues in his short time playing.

Perhaps they missed a trick by not signing the Netherlands international, who seems destined to reach the very top of the game.
