Everton suffered a huge blow during the January transfer window when Anthony Gordon - their joint-top scorer in the current Premier League campaign - departed for Newcastle United, and another key player could be set for a move away from Goodison Park at the end of the season.

What's the latest?

According to journalist Peter O'Rourke, it would be "almost inevitable" that Amadou Onana will leave if the Toffees are relegated this year.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “So, not just Arsenal, I think were looking at him, Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in Onana as well and if Everton were to suffer relegation, you would imagine it’s almost inevitable that he would leave as well. I think there’ll be a lot of clubs looking at Onana in the summer.”

Gordon repeat

Despite only just getting settled in at Goodison Park, Sean Dyche will surely be working hard to exercise some serious damage control to ensure that Everton do not fall any further into trouble over the remainder of the season and beyond.

The Toffees are currently 18th in the Premier League table after 21 games, although the 51-year-old showed a glimpse of what could be possible at the club with a monumental victory over league leaders Arsenal last weekend. He will be hoping that he can build a run of good form by following that up at Anfield in the Merseyside derby on Monday night.

Should Dyche retain Everton's top-flight status this summer, the manager will need to reinvest in the squad during the transfer window, with the club's failure to replace Richarlison and Gordon having considerably weakened the options in the forward line.

In addition, the former Burnley boss will need to retain key players who have become the spine of the team since they arrived on Merseyside, with loanee Conor Coady yet to secure a permanent future and Onana attracting attention from some of the biggest clubs in the top flight.

Across 19 league appearances so far this season, the £100k-per-week midfielder - who was hailed by Alan Shearer for his "tireless" work rate - has scored one goal, registered one assist and tallied an 85% pass completion rate, averaging 1.1 shots on goal, 46.8 touches, one interception, 2.6 tackles and a whopping 6.9 successful duels per game.

Furthermore, Onana ranks in the top 25% of his positional peers across the top five European leagues over the past year for aerial duels won, clearances, interceptions and tackles, proving to be a huge presence and a breath of fresh air in the middle of the park.

As a result, the pressure will be on for Dyche to deliver another great escape for Everton over the remaining 17 top-flight fixtures, as avoiding a summer repeat of Gordon's sudden exit may well be essential for the Toffees to gain stability and consistency in the future.
