Everton picked up a point from their clash at Craven Cottage with Fulham on Saturday afternoon and although Frank Lampard will be thankful that his team managed to hold off a defeat, he will be frustrated his side couldn't take more from the game.

The Toffees are currently 12th in the Premier League table but are just three points clear of the relegation zone, so there is certainly room for improvement over the coming weeks and months ahead.

Everton were unable to dominate the game against the Cottagers with less possession (43%), fewer shots on goal (9 v 24) and fewer accurate passes (80% v 83%), proving that Lampard's side were lucky to have taken a point from the game.

In a largely uneventful goalless draw, there was one controversial decision that the Everton boss believed dampened his team's opportunity to steal all three points.

Aleksander Mitrovic escaped a red card booking for a stamp on Idrissa Gana Gueye's ankle, something that Lampard was very vocal about in his post-match interview:

“It was a red card for Mitrovic, I have nothing against him but he knew, he put his arm up straight away. VAR is there to deal with these things. Last year our midfielder Allan got a yellow, it was upgraded to red and he got a four-game ban. It was nowhere near as forceful as that one tonight. It was a red card and we haven’t had those decisions this year.”

Despite the disappointing decision, Lampard can't make excuses for the lack of attacking threat his front three provided over the game and Anthony Gordon certainly let down his manager with a badly uninspiring display against Marco Silva's side.

The 21-year-old boyhood Evertonian had little influence on proceedings, ultimately finishing the game with fewer touches than Jordan Pickford (34 v 54), a damning statistic for a player who should be on the ball as much as possible.

Furthermore, he completed just ten passes and failed to complete a single dribble, as well as losing possession of the ball every 2.2 touches and registering no shots on target, before being hooked by Lampard in the 86th minute.

In truth, that substitution was perhaps too late with the tricky youngster struggling immensely throughout the clash.

That was the viewpoint of the Liverpool Echo's Connor O'Neill too who awarded the wide man a disappointing post-match rating of 6, while writing: "Made the wrong choices on a number of occasions and lacked composure when his one big chance arrived inside the Fulham box."

Although the Toffees have been great defensively, only Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers have scored fewer goals than Everton so a lack of goal threat - particularly from Gordon - is something the manager needs to address in the weeks and months ahead remaining in the season.

With that being said, there is no doubt that the powers at Goodison Park should be looking to add more depth to the options in the final third and a clinical finisher when the transfer window re-opens in January.
