Everton are currently 12th in the Premier League and with just two fixtures to go before the World Cup, Frank Lampard will be hopeful that his team will be in a comfortable position ahead of the break.

The Toffees are now three points clear of the relegation zone which will be a huge relief to the manager, supporters and the squad after a difficult relegation battle last term.

However, there is still more room for improvement within the team to produce more convincing results and a better attacking threat as the Toffees have scored one fewer goal than they have conceded so far.

As a result, Lampard should give more minutes to versatile midfielder James Garner who was signed this summer from Manchester United in a £15m deal but hasn't been given a single start yet after arriving.

The 21-year-old rising star - who was hailed "special" by Statman Dave - caught the attention of many clubs for his incredible contributions whilst on loan with Nottingham Forest, displaying both his incredible attacking and defensive capabilities.

Over 41 Championship appearances, Garner scored four goals, registered eight assists and created seven big chances, as well as averaging two key passes, 1.4 interceptions and 1.8 tackles per game.

However, since joining Everton the talented youngster has only made five Premier League appearances from the bench, averaging just 18 minutes per outing. Yet, after his 25-minute performance against Fulham, Lampard would be foolish not to give the player a spot in the starting XI.

Garner replaced Idrissa Gana Gueye in the 65th minute and had a brilliant impact. The youngster won three tackles, made two interceptions and won 100% of his duels, proving that despite his limited time on the pitch he is clearly effective and is a great asset to the team.

The Everton manager has given high praise to the midfielder and claims that he offers something "different" to the team:

“He looks a bit different to our other midfield players in his attributes; his passing, his delivery of set-pieces and shots he can get away. He is a really clean striker of the ball in a sense of his passing."

With that being said, Lampard must give Garner the opportunity to continue to prove his worth and build up a run of form in the heart of the Everton team as he could be a very valuable asset to the side over the season ahead.
