Everton have appointed Frank Lampard as their manager to replace Rafa Benitez after the Spaniard failed to get Everton in a good position in the Premier League, leading them into a potential relegation battle that has found the side currently just four points from the drop and it seems that the new manager is already making important decisions to rectify the issues at the club.

What's the word?

Transfer insider, Dean Jones, has revealed that Lampard has already made a key decision in his new role to ensure harmony is kept in the squad following Benitez's exit.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT:

"It’s interesting that Lampard has asked Duncan Ferguson to stay. He’s got a strong relationship with Calvert-Lewin and Lampard knows it’s key to keep the striker happy in this moment."

It was speculated that Duncan Ferguson may leave the club upon the arrival of the former Chelsea boss, after his second short stint as interim manager of the club, but the new manager is reportedly keen for the beloved Everton legend and coach on board at Goodison Park.

Fans will be relieved

Following images of Ferguson involved in the initial training sessions held this week alongside Lampard, fans will be relieved to see one of their favourite Everton influences remaining at the club to work on the next era with the new manager and signings that have arrived over the last month.

Forget Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek, this could yet be the new manager's biggest stride he makes in the next few weeks.

After all, the Scottish coach is highly valued by fans and players, due to his connection to the club and being part of Everton's most recent trophy win in 1995 when he won the FA Cup at Wembley with the Toffees.

Following his playing career devoted to the club, his influence is still valued at Finch Farm, with his past periods of interim management at the club supported by fans.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also been linked with moves away from the club during the January transfer window, with Arsenal being strongly interested in signing the star striker.

However, if Jones' comments are to be believed, Lampard will be keen to keep the player in his future plans and by retaining the services of Ferguson, it could prove game-changing in the club's desire to prevent Calvert-Lewin from departing Goodison.

That's an eventuality that would undoubtedly leave supporters purring considering his impact at the club. Last term he bagged 21 times which is incredibly difficult to replace, something the Toffees have discovered this term.

The legendary midfielder turned manager will now be leading out his new-look Everton side for the first time in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend, where he will be hoping to make an instant impression by progressing in the competition with a win over Brentford in front of the home fans at Goodison Park.
