Everton: Farhad Moshiri had a shocker on Eden Dzeko

Everton recorded their first victory since October 1 in a 3-0 win 3-0 over Crystal Palace on Saturday, and despite some poor results this season, the Toffees currently find themselves sitting in 11th place in the Premier League table.

Their next three league matches see Frank Lampard’s side take on Fulham, Leicester City and Bournemouth, games which represent a great chance of gaining some more momentum heading into the hiatus for the 2022 World Cup.

Only four teams have a better defensive record than Everton this term, however, with just 11 goals scored, the club’s attacking output has let them down at times, and it could have been different if they had made a move for a former Premier League star in the summer…

Moshiri had a shocker on Dzeko

It was reported in the summer that Everton were one of three Premier League teams interested in Edin Dzeko, however, a move didn’t materialise and the Bosnian striker remained at Inter Milan.

With Anthony Gordon the club’s top league goal scorer with just three goals this season, it’s clear they needed another goal scorer.

Dzeko has netted four goals and registered three assists in all competitions this season, a solid return for a 36-year-old, proving he can still cut it at the highest level.

With 50 Premier League goals for Manchester City, as well as 377 in his career as a whole, the striker knows England very well and there is no doubt he would have added some quality to the Everton side going forward.

Which club did Everton sign Josh King from in the 2021 Jan transfer window?

Dzeko’s game doesn’t just rely on scoring, however, as he has created two big chances and plays an average of 0.9 key passes per match.

This is supported by his former Roma manager, Eusebio Di Francesco, saying: “I must say, he’s an extraordinary player, and not just in terms of his finishing – he gets the team playing, brings the ball down and produces good service for his teammates. He’s a fantastic professional, his pre-match preparations are always spot-on.”

It represented a big opportunity missed by Farhad Moshiri and a duo of Dominic Calvert-Lewin – who is not only similar in style, frame and goalscoring ability to the Bosnian, but also looked exceptionally lively in the win over Palace last weekend – and Dzeko would have struck fear into opposition defenders throughout the top flight.
