Everton have had non-stop injury problems to key players over the last 12 months and Frank Lampard will be hoping that enough was done in the transfer window to add depth to the side with the worst injury record in the Premier League last season.

The Toffees witnessed a difficult relegation scrap at the bottom of the table over their previous campaign in the top flight only retaining their Premier League status in the penultimate game of the season, and the ongoing injury issues certainly played a big part in the team's downfall.

It is now looking like the problems of the past are back to haunt Lampard though with Yerry Mina, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ben Godfrey and Abdoulaye Doucoure all sustaining injuries over the season so far.

As a result, it's time for the former Chelsea boss to get brutal with some of these players who are constantly picking up injuries, with centre-back Mina one of the most inconsistent and injury-prone players in the squad, completely lacking reliability and availability over his time at Goodison Park.

The 27-year-old Colombian defender joined the club back in 2018 from Barcelona in a deal worth up to £28.5m and despite being a solid presence in the Toffees' back-line when fit, he has spent a huge amount of time on the injury table.

Mina has had 11 separate incidents of injury over the last four years spending 367 days in total in recovery from his various injuries which is equal to 54 weeks and over a year out of the team. As a result, every fitness problem has cost the club £2.3m when you consider the fee they signed him for.

Remarkably the unreliable centre-back is currently the highest paid player at the club collecting £120k-per-week meaning that the player has earned a whopping £6.48m whilst sitting out, which is something that cannot continue, especially with Everton's recent financial troubles.

Although it couldn't be done over the summer, Lampard now has the perfect opportunity to get the defender off the wage bill and out of the injury room at Finch Farm as the club made two huge signings to bolster the defence in Conor Coady and James Tarkowski.

The pair are already beginning to build a solid centre-back partnership in the team that has led to Everton going unbeaten in their last four league games so even if they can't get rid of Mina until January, Lampard can still ditch the centre-back from his plans.

With that being said, it's time to go for Mina and the powers at Goodison Park need to make it happen when it becomes possible to do so as the defender is clearly not capable of offering the availability and support needed in the team.
