Former Premier League striker Dean Windass has told Football FanCast in an exclusive interview that he cannot see Rafael Benitez and Everton making a move for Chris Wood this summer.

Benitez is set for the Goodison Park dugout this upcoming season following Carlo Ancelotti's surprise return to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Wood has reportedly been earmarked as a potential signing for the club.

According to the Mirror, Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham are all interested in signing the Burnley striker, with the Merseyside outfit waiting to get the go-ahead from Ancelotti's successor.

It is not a move, however, that Windass can imagine Benitez sanctioning. On the Toffees' reported interest in Wood, the ex-Hull City forward said:

"I can't see Rafa going for that with Chris Wood. Rafa Benitez doesn't really change his system that much, you know, he's always got that one up front.

"Chris Wood would say, 'I play week in, week out for the club who I'm playing for. Even if I don't score or if I play bad, I'm going to play the week after.' So, nah, I think Chris will stay at Burnley."

Indeed, Wood has been a regular at Burnley, playing 33 times and scoring 12 goals in the Premier League last season.

Furthermore, it would be a surprise if he left Turf Moor for Goodison Park, where he could end up having to play second fiddle to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
