The Premier League season is now less than two weeks away and Everton supporters will be hoping that their side can steer well clear of relegation after a disastrous 2021/22 campaign.

After losing Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, the last thing the Toffees need is injuries in attacking areas ahead of their season opener against Chelsea next weekend.

What's the latest?

Supporters will have been concerned, therefore, when both Demarai Gray and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were forced to sit out of their 4-2 pre-season win against Blackpool last weekend.

However, Frank Lampard has provided an update on the duo, and it looks like positive news for the Toffees.

He said: "You’re concerned because you want them on the pitch but they are small issues that were not worth risking today.

"We travelled back from America on a long overnight flight after Minnesota. Then the lads needed a bit of time off and came back so where they’ve got small issues it wasn’t worth risking them. Hopefully, they’ll be fit to train in the middle of the week and we’ll play it from there."

Supporters will be buzzing

Given that Gray was one of Everton's top performers in the Premier League last season, supporters will be buzzing to hear that he will most likely be fit for the start of the new season.

The former Leicester City man contributed five goals and four assists over his 24 appearances in the top flight, which was enough to see him finish joint-second for both goals and assists in Everton's side.

Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, would also manage five league goals over 17 fixtures for the Toffees last time out, including the memorable winner in the comeback against Crystal Palace which saw Lampard's side secure safety in the Premier League.

After an injury-hit season, Everton's success next season could well depend on keeping the England striker fit, so supporters will be delighted to hear that he only had a minor knock.

Hopefully both Calvert-Lewin and Gray will be fit and raring to go for their game at Goodison Park next Saturday.
