Everton have finally called time on Frank Lampard's tenure, with his list of potential replacements ever-growing...

What’s the latest?

That's according to Italian publication Il Messaggero, who claim that numerous Premier League clubs are considering Maurizio Sarri to be their next manager.

With numerous coaches on shaky ground in the English top flight, it was expected that Lampard would be sacked today after a torrid run of results.

As such, the Toffees will likely be in the driving seat for Sarri's signature, given that they could pounce on the Lazio boss without having to negotiate over any ongoing deals.

Ideal Lampard successor

Despite continuing to enjoy the backing of many supporters, it just didn't ever seem to really get going for Lampard at Goodison Park.

The 44-year-old did manage to guide his team to safety last season, although it can be debated how much of that was down to the lack of quality surrounding the teams involved in the relegation battle.

This time around, though, there are plenty more teams involved, all of whom currently seem far more likely to pick up points than the Blues. Everton have just one Premier League win since the start of October and are in desperate need of a true leader to come in and take the dressing room by the scruff of the neck.

Whilst Farhad Moshiri will be wary of appointing anyone who is too much of a risk, given that the threat relegation still looms large, he will still want to look to the future and avoid another short-term fix.

Therefore, with experience in the division and a pedigree beyond most of the managers employed during the Iranian's tenure at Goodison Park, Sarri marks a fine option.

Having impressed in Italy, the 64-year-old earned a move to Chelsea in 2018, where some might argue that he was unfairly treated.

Parting with him after one season despite winning the Europa League final against London rivals Arsenal, as of November 2021 he boasted the fifth-best win percentage of any manager at Stamford Bridge (61%). This is a far cry from Lampard's abysmal 17.39% win rate this season and 44.09% throughout his short career, having ironically succeeded Sarri in the Chelsea hot-seat.

Not only is he far more experienced than Lampard, his belief in his 4-3-3 philosophy will finally give the players at Everton a goal to aim towards rather than the ever-changing nature of the Englishman's systems.

Gianbattista Scugugia, who previously played under Sarri, was full of praise for him upon his first venture into English football, describing him as "a maniac of football". His meticulous nature could be imperative in a relegation scrap.

The 64-year-old would be a huge upgrade on Lampard and probably Everton's best bet at both ensuring top-flight survival whilst maintaining a high-pedigree coach to lead them into the future.
