That's according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who gave his thoughts to GIVEMESPORT on the Toffees' pursuit of Anthony Elanga.

The Italian claimed: "For Anthony Elanga, Everton are still interested. They would love to sign the player, as would Borussia Dortmund. So these two clubs are interested.”

With Frank Lampard expected to leave his job as manager at some point today, as per Sky Sports, Kevin Thelwell could still maintain this deal in an effort to give the 44-year-old's successor the best possible start at Goodison Park.

Dream first signing

Whilst this represents yet another tumultuous chapter in the club's recent history, their perilous league position means that they cannot afford to rest while a potential manager upheaval takes place.

They sit joint-bottom alongside Southampton, having lost in miserable fashion to a similarly struggling West Ham United. As such, they remain without a win in all competitions since October, with a miserable 15 goals having been scored in 20 league games.

Their toothless nature is the overriding factor in their dismal form, with an absence of any patterns of play underlying a frontline completely devoid of any confidence.

Therefore, an injection of youth and hunger alongside a potential new manager bounce could be imperative in renewing their push for safety.

Elanga boasts both of those traits in abundance, with his emergence onto the footballing scene drawing praise from his legendary compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The AC Milan marksman labelled him: “A great talent, we are proud and happy that he comes from Sweden. That he can represent Sweden now makes it even bigger."

The 41-year-old subsequently issued some advice to Elanga, stating: “He has all the future ahead of him, and if he continues just as he has done, it looks positive. It’s just fighting, never being happy, striving for more. It depends on him, how far he can develop.”

With 47 games for Manchester United already under his belt at just 20 years of age, the future looks incredibly bright for the Sweden international, who has recorded seven goal contributions for his club during this time.

Whilst he may not ensure a steady stream of goals and assists, his relentless running and electric pace would surely make him an improvement on what already resides at Goodison Park.

The fact that he ranks in the top 17% for tackles when compared with other wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year lends credence to the suggestion that he would be a dream first signing for whoever Lampard's successor may be, as the youngster would work for the team even if he is struggling to contribute offensively.

With top-level experience which belies his youth and an insatiable desire to get better with each week, it is this kind of mentality which has been lacking in the dressing room on the blue half of Merseyside.
