Everton could be set to add another striker to their ranks in a deadline day swoop…
According to Fabrizio Romano, Ben Brereton Diaz of Blackburn Rovers is still a name being discussed amongst the Toffees hierarchy.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he claimed: “They’re working on many strikers, Ben Brereton Diaz, and there are many, many players really that they are considering for that position.”
He is reportedly available for just £20m.
A true marksman, the Chilean striker hit such hot form last season that journalist Josh Bunting described his goal scoring form as “sensational”.
His 22 goals in 37 Championship appearances are indicative of a fine finisher, more than double the tally of the now departed Richarlison, and over four times the amount of Calvert-Lewin, who was their second top scorer.
Being without their main striker, it naturally saw Everton struggle last season, and Frank Lampard will be keen to ensure he is not left in a similar position this year.
Brereton Diaz represents more of a wildcard option, and his size and poacher instinct makes him more of a target man than the small and wily Frenchman.
Not only did he score a bagful, but with 17 big chances missed, he proves that he knows where to be at the right time. With maturity, if the 23-year-old could start to convert these chances then it would be a scary prospect for the rest of the league.
Perhaps Lampard should invest in the star striker now and reap the rewards down the line. This different type of forward is just what he needs, and could mark the perfect end to what must be regarded as a largely successful transfer window.
