Everton have been praised for their unorthodox thinking in the transfer market, as they continue to be linked with new forwards…

What’s the latest?

This time the man in question is Dodi Lukebakio, who was first reported as a Toffees target earlier this month.

Now, however, it is transfer insider Dean Jones who has offered the following update on their pursuit, as he told GIVEMESPORTIn terms of Lukebakio, it’s an interesting one, and it’s actually nice to see and hear of Everton thinking outside the box a little bit.”

With Frank Lampard suffering from a lack of goals out wide, this move could be perfect in lifting them out of the relegation zone.

Gordon upgrade

With just 14 goals in 18 Premier League games this season, it is clear that something needs to change at Goodison Park.

In between spirited away performances against the Manchester clubs, there sat a 4-1 drubbing against Brighton and Hove Albion.

That game would end with a late penalty, converted by Demarai Gray for only his third league goal of the season.

However, this would move him level with Anthony Gordon as the club’s top scorer for the season, who has had a similarly disappointing goalscoring year.

This stands as a searing indictment of the lack of quality Lampard has at his disposal, and how glaringly obvious it is that his position needs a revamp.

Therefore, bringing in the free-scoring Lukebakio marks a smart move, with the 25-year-old boasting more than double their three-goal tallies aforementioned on seven.

The 6 foot 2 goliath supplements this with a further two assists, meaning the £42k-per-week dynamo has nine goal contributions in just 15 Bundesliga games this season.

As such, he has more than earned his 7.15 average rating, which is further propped up by 2.5 shots and 0.9 key passes per game, via Sofascore.

He is a constant goal threat, with the physical attributes to match his technical superiority. This is supported by the positive words uttered by teammate Adam Bodzek, who claimed: “Dodi is incredibly valuable, incredibly fast. For us he's a very important player.”

Whilst Gordon may have blistering speed too, it is clear that his inconsistency is frustrating his manager.

The 21-year-old has started just once in their last five league games, with rumours linking him with a move from Goodison Park persisting.

Perhaps this Lukebakio move could act as a catalyst for improved performances from their homegrown starlet, given how the Belgian would mark an upgrade on all wingers already at the club.

Or, it could spell his exit.
