Everton are seeing a repeat of their struggles of last season in their current Premier League campaign and now a reliable source has given an insight into a potential transfer target who could add depth to one of the most important positions on the pitch.

What's the latest?

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Pete O'Rourke has revealed that signing Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Seny Dieng could "really push" Jordan Pickford for his position in the team.

O'Rourke revealed:

"If they bring in Seny Deing, I'm sure he will be hoping that he could go there and maybe break into the first team and really push Jordan Pickford for his place as well, because he's also in contract talks with Everton and if those don't go well, then they'll definitely need to be looking to bring in a number one."

Lampard could land "very impressive" Dieng

Indeed, Everton will be hoping that they can convince Pickford to continue to reign as the long-term number one at Goodison Park, however, with growing speculation surrounding his future at the club and a contract that is ending in 18 months, they cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

As a result, the signing of Dieng could be a great prospect for the Toffees as he is showing clear talent and leadership in defending his club's goal in the Championship this season.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that the 6 foot 4 titan was being eyed by the Toffees heading into 2023.

QPR are currently 7th in the league table and will be hoping that they can continue to climb positions to earn a playoff position at the end of the season.

Dieng has been hailed "very impressive" by Jamie Mackie for his performance against Sunderland at The Stadium of Light this season where he scored a 92nd-minute equaliser and prevented the Black Cats from stealing all three points with a last-minute save:

“To then compose yourself after scoring as a goalkeeper, all the adrenaline rushing through your body. It lands to Stewart who Sunderland would want it to land to and he gets down so well with a strong hand. Very impressive and certainly a day he will remember.”

Over 21 appearances so far, the Senegalese 27-year-old has successfully completed 100% of his runouts, averaging 2.2 saves, 1.1 clearances and four long balls per game, proving that the West London club have been in safe hands.

The current England number one and Toffees shot-stopper has been attracting attention from a number of clubs and most recently Tottenham Hotspur who are looking for their next starting keeper to succeed Hugo Lloris.

With that being said, if Everton can secure a deal for Dieng it would certainly put Everton in a great position should Pickford leave the club in the coming months before his contract expires in 2024.
