Everton are spending their remaining days in the transfer window in search of a new striker, and now a potential transfer target has emerged in the club's pursuit to find the perfect player to join the squad at Goodison Park.

What's the latest?

According to The Daily Mail, Everton are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo this summer.

As per the report, the Toffees will need to compete with Manchester United to secure the signature of the £38m player, as the Red Devils are stepping up their pursuit of the player after struggling to sign Antony from Ajax.

Lampard could ditch Gordon

With speculation mounting around Anthony Gordon's future at Goodison Park, the signing of Gakpo could be the perfect opportunity to not only secure a prolific goal-scorer but also make a profit on the boyhood Evertonian who is believed to be valued at more than £50m by Everton.

Although Gordon is a fantastic winger and a talented player, the Toffees are in desperate need of an attacker who has the ability to finish goal-scoring opportunities and his sale could well be sanctioned if they could sign a player as swashbuckling as the PSV star.

The 21-year-old Evertonian has had 3.3 shots per game so far but has failed to convert a single chance as yet, and this has been a constant theme across the Toffees' forward line.

Everton have already had 42 shots on goal but only converted two of those, proving that the side struggling to impose themselves in front of goal with a lack of players who are capable of finishing their chances.

As a result, the signing of Gakpo could be a fantastic piece of business for Frank Lampard with PSV's star player not only confident in finishing but a huge attacking threat all round.

Over 27 appearances last season, the 23-year-old scored 12 goals, delivered 13 assists and created a whopping 11 big chances, while making 3.6 key passes per game. The Dutch winger also took three shots with 1.1 of those on target per game, as well as successfully completing 59% of his dribble attempts.

The young striker's ability has not gone on unnoticed with former Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen hailing Gakpo when assessing the players diverse qualities in an interview with NOS:

“That boy (Gakpo) has everything.

“Fine feeling for the ball, a good through ball, dribbles and is strong between the lines."

Gakpo's clear ability to not only be a reliable forward but also provide a hugely creative presence in the forward line will give Lampard a high-quality alternative to Dominic Calvert-Lewin when he returns from injury and could even compete with the Toffees striker for the centre-forward role in the team.

With that being said, the signing of Gakpo would be a major coup for Everton and with only days remaining in the transfer window, Farhad Moshiri must step up the club's interest in the player to give Lampard a talented striker to work with. It could well be a move that grants the club the freedom it needs to finally ditch Gordon from their plans too.
