Everton have already made five signings this summer but are desperate to acquire the services of a striker following Dominic Calvert-Lewin's injury, and a reliable source has revealed a new transfer target.

What's the latest?

According to journalist and former Everton communications director Alan Myers, the Toffees have expressed an interest in Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz.

He tweeted: "Everton have expressed an interest in @Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz, the Chile international is one of a number of players being considered by the club, which also includes Broja, Maupay, Gyökeres and Adams."

"Nice have had a bid of around £10M pound rejected for BBD"

Lampard needs him badly

There is no doubt that Lampard needs a striker badly after losing Calvert-Lewin to injury over the next month and Richarlison exiting for Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the summer, and the manager is intent on finding one who can make an instant impact.

Lampard spoke out on the situation to Sky Sports (via Goodison News) following their Premier League opener against Chelsea at Goodison Park earlier this month, saying: “We are looking at that [to sign a striker].

“Because we should be able to replace a player like Dominic Calvert-Lewin who comes three days before the match injured."

Everton are yet to earn a point or score a goal for themselves over their first two games of the season, so the signing of Brereton Diaz would be hugely advantageous to the Toffees, as he has been going from strength to strength in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers.

The talented centre-forward, who was dubbed a "goal machine" by journalist Alan Nixon, has already scored two goals for his team over three appearances in the second tier in the early weeks of the new campaign, and last season he was one of the standout performers in the division as its joint-third highest scorer.

Across 37 appearances in 2021/22, Brereton Diaz scored 22 goals, delivered three assists and created three big chances, along with taking 1.3 shots on target and winning 4.1 duels per game. He showed that he is a highly effective goal threat who could be a massive asset to Lampard over the season ahead if he can emulate his Championship scoring abilities in the top flight with a move to Everton.

The Toffees boss could give the 23-year-old his golden opportunity to take the next step in his career to play Premier League football, so Everton should not have too much trouble in tempting the striker with a move to Goodison Park, although Rovers may be harder to convince.

His current club have slapped a £20m price tag on the player and already rejected an offer from French outfit Nice, so they are clearly not keen to sell their star striker - and for good reason, as he will surely play an important part in their bid for promotion to the top flight.

With that in mind, the powerbrokers at Goodison Park will need to put a tempting offer to Blackburn to convince them to part ways with their star striker, but with just two weeks left until the transfer window closes, Everton will need to act fast or else risk not signing a much-needed centre-forward.
