Everton table late bid for Ben Brereton Diaz

Everton have been linked with a move for Ben Brereton Diaz for weeks, and now a brand new update has emerged on the club’s pursuit of the player in the final hours of the transfer window.

What’s the latest?

According to Sky Sports News (18.28), Everton have now tabled a late bid to sign the Blackburn Rovers striker.

As per the report, the Toffees are now set to compete with Fulham to secure the signature of Brereton Diaz and have now returned to discussions with Blackburn Rovers to secure a deal in the remaining hours of Deadline Day.

He’d be Frank’s saviour

Everton remain winless in the Premier League after five games played and are currently 17th in the table collecting just three points out of a possible 15 and after their attempts to sign Joao Pedro fell through, Brereton Diaz could be Frank Lampard’s saviour at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have been struggling to change their fortunes in the top flight following a difficult relegation battle at the bottom of the table last season, and it was inevitable that the side would suffer in terms of goals after Richarlison made his move to Tottenham Hotspur and Calvert-Lewin picked up another injury.

As a result, the signing of Brereton Diaz would be a major coup after completing a deal for Idrissa Gana Gueye today, as the powers at Goodison Park seek to add more depth to their attacking threat to ensure they can comfortably compete over the season ahead.

The Chile international has scored 33 goals and delivered 13 assists for Blackburn Rovers, becoming a key player for the Championship side in their pursuit to earn promotion back into the Premier League and was hailed the “catalyst” in the team by Colin Hendry.

Last season the 23-year-old scored 22 goals for Rovers blowing his previous seven-goal season out of the water and now Lampard could take the opportunity to snap up the in-form striker who has already netted three goals in seven appearances this season.

Firstly, where did Everton finish in the Premier League?

Brereton Diaz has been seriously impressing at club level, as journalist Josh Bunting lavished praise on the £20m forward, labelling his goal-scoring form as “sensational”.

Indeed, it won’t be easy to get a deal over the line as his current club will likely be very reluctant to lose one of their most important players without any time to replace his contribution in the team, so Lampard and Farhad Moshiri will need to do a lot of convincing over the next few hours to seal a deal before the market slams shut at 11pm. However, if they can work hard to secure a late deal, he could just rescue Everton from a torrid season so far.
