Everton have a lot of work to do this summer if they want to get their squad up to scratch.

The Toffees had a disappointing season in 2019/20, finishing in the bottom half, but despite an underwhelming outing last term, they now have something to build on.

They have a three-time Champions League-winning manager at the helm, and if they can get the right players in they’re ready to compete at the top-level.

However, getting those men through the door isn’t always as straightforward as you would like, and on this we learnt that Marcel Brands has been working day and night to progress the Toffees transfer business, but perhaps not in the way you’d imagine.

What’s been said then?

Greg O’Keeffe and wrote an interesting piece detailing Everton’s transfer market plans, while Alex Stewart also suggested some sensible transfers for the Toffees during that piece.

During that article O’Keeffe stated that Everton’s financial situation is quite precarious at the moment, claiming that their wage-to-turnover ratio was too high, in turn that means that one of the Merseyside club’s top priorities is shifting their deadwood.

“It means Brands is working night and day to find buyers for highly-paid fringe men such as Sandro Ramirez, Yannick Bolasie and Muhamed Besic, who are all back aboard the mothership from loans where they have had varying degrees of success,” He wrote.

Difficult

Finding buyers for these three flops is going to be a tough task.

All three spent last season out on loan, and none of them made any real impact at their respective clubs, with just 29 league starts between them, and just four goals as well.

By the sounds of it, the fees they receive are rather inconsequential as the main aim looks to be to cut the wage bill, but whether or not these sales are possible remains to be seen.

This will be a real test of Marcel Brands’ talents, and if he can strike these deals he will deserve a lot of credit.
